Podcasting thoughts

My experience making my podcast was pretty good. I had rerecord it a couple of times because I didn't have absolute silence around me. But other than that it went well. At first I thought it was going to be hard to do, but it wasn't bad at all.
As for my thoughts on using it as a teacher, I think it is a valuable tool for teachers to use. I thought of many ways I could use it, only I wanted to make something I could actually have my students use in the classroom. that is why I chose to read a story to them and have them follow along. I saw this on another podcast and thought it was a good idea. I could also use it to record their voices and have them read the stories. I think they would love that. Another way I thought about how to use pod casting would be to have students do their own news pods, they could use current events in the world and also discuss things in school and events that are coming up. I think this would be great for the older students at my building because it would make them feel more important. They would also be learning too. There are many ways to use pod casting in education. I think if the school has the ability to offer their teachers technology to use in the classroom then we should jump at it and use it as much as we can. The school I'm currently working at does not have too many opportunities for technology, at least not yet. We are currently setting up a new computer lab and library with a smart board for classes to use. I can't wait to be able to use technology more, there are so many positives that come from it. There are a few negatives, but if the teacher is on top of things and sets up guidelines for the students prior to using any type of technology then I think the positives out weigh the negatives.

Some things I love

These are a few of my favorite things, besides my family. I love dolphins and butterflies. Both are so free and beautiful. I love going to butterfly houses and being able to watch them up close. They are so pretty and colorful. And dolphins are powerful, graceful and very intelligent. On my honeymoon 4 years ago I was lucky enough to be able to swim with the dolphins. It was one of the most wonderful times in my life. I hope to be able to do it again someday.

Do you think you would use blogging in classroom or workplace environment? Why or why not? If so, for what purpose?

I think it would be a great tool to use in the classroom and in the workplace. I don’t think I would use it with my kindergartners though. They are far too young. I saw a really good idea on the site http://supportblogging.com/. There was a teacher from New Zealand who posted students’ work on the blog page and pictures from the school year for parents to view. It was a very good idea. However where I currently teach most of my parents do not have access to a computer and I don’t think it would be beneficial. If I taught older students it would be great for discussing topics and it would allow the students to have a more personal and meaningful learning experience.
As for use in the workplace I think it would be a great way for all the teachers to discuss things and support one another. We could share our experiences and give ideas for lessons or new ways to teach things. All in all I think blogging is a good experience and can be used in so many ways. I have used blogging on myspace before just to “talk” about things and get things off my chest. After reviewing all of these sites and learning more about blogging I know it’s a lot more useful than just an online diary.

What do I think of blogging for teaching and learning purposes?

I feel that there are many good points for using blogging in the classroom. Students can learn more when they are put in charge so to speak. They feel empowered by being able to express and share their ideas. It can also be very useful as a topic discussion, where students voice their opinions and read what others have to say. It can build a sense of community for the classroom.

Blogging can also be used as a support and communication tool for parents. Teachers can post homework assignments, students' current projects and work. They can also keep in contact with each other and keep updated on what is going on in the classroom.

Furthermore, blogging can also be helpful for teachers to share their experiences and lessons. I found many teachers' blogs that were very helpful to me as a teacher. they posted helpful teacher web sites and had ideas to share. Others used it as a diary, which I feel is helpful because I see how many other teachers are in the same boat as me. We have similar fears and hardships and also many positive, wonderful experiences from our students.
